Parties Galore!

I don't know about you, but my mailbox has been flooded lately with invites. I have friends having baby showers, post-baby parties, engagement back yard Bar-B-Ques, pool parties, house warming parties, you name it- there's an invite in my mailbox for it.

I'm part of that equation too. I'm hosting a post-baby party in a few weeks at my house. If you are like me and your calendar is quickly filling up with social events, you probably need a few gifts in hand.

At Jac. we got in the most adorable gifts for both baby and new home owner from a company called BeanPickleSprout. They are the perfect, unique hand made gifts that you don't have to worry about someone else showing up to the party with the same gift.

Here are some cute retro baby bibs:

And some cute retro pot holders for the new homeowner/host gifts:

Hope to see you soon, and come see our new baby/hostess gift additions!

Dish List

Little dishes are a little known obsession of mine.
They are so cute. So easy to love. So handy.
The ones on my dresser are for jewelry.
The ones by the door are for keys.
The ones in the kitchen are for random bits - rubberbands, chip clips, etc.

They also happen to make great gifts. Come by and check out our newest selection from Handgrown Pottery in person.

All Nobbed Up With No Place To Go

Resident Male here with a public service announcement for all y'all I see with bags from Halls of Fine Wine.

First off, you've made a wise decision. Hall's is a great wine shop, and you've had a long day. Enjoy that glass (or two) of Pinotage. Break out some cheese and cured meats from Parish to make the hour even happier. Exhale. Ok, so far, so good. Here's where I think I can help.

DON'T JAM THAT OLD CORK BACK IN YOUR WINE. AND DON'T- GASP- DON'T SCREW THAT TOP BACK ON EITHER!

Jac. just received a shipment of antique-ish wine stoppers from Knobstoppers. They're super stylish and won't leave your half-drunk bottle of Barolo feeling naked and neglected (until tomorrow night, when you complement- and compliment- it with a pizza margherita from Fritti).
You love your wine. Doesn't it deserve to look pretty too?

I remember when Inman Park used to be known just as the residential neighborhood behind Little Five Points. Speckled with a few shops and restaurants on North Highland but mainly just homes. Over the last five years, it's exploded into it's own urban live, work, and play neighborhood. Bordered by Poncey-Highlands, the Old-Fourth Ward, and Cabbagetown, Inman Park is in the thick of change for these historic areas.

I am proud that Jac. is able to be apart of all the new growth. If you haven't been down here in a while, you should come check it out. Parish, a new Concentrics restaurant, opened across the street. Inman Perk moved from their Elizabeth Street location around the corner on North Highland. Atlanta Scooters took the coffee shop's Elizabeth Street location. The HighlandCigar Bar is two doors down from Jac. Every week it seems like there is some new restaurant, shop, spa, flower shop, etc etc opening up all around us. There's too many new faces on the block to mention!

It's an exciting time for Inman Park, and a great time for Atlanta. We now have so many options for us in-towners who like supporting independently run, unique restaurants, services, and stores. I say kudos to Atlantans for supporting our neighborhood businesses allowing intown vibrant growth while keeping the landscape local and independent. Come check it out!

Everybody's Working For The Weekend

There's nothing like throwing some things together and skipping town for the weekend. It's essential, really. Whether you're heading off to a city, lake, beach, mountain, farm, reunion, jamboree or just a road trip to nowhere, there's one thing we can all agree on: Everybody's Working For The Weekend.

Before I blog further about some great weekender bags that belong by your side, let's take a moment to watch Loverboy's tribute to the weekend:

Nothing like it. Love that song.

Now that we're all on the same page with regards to weekends, it's time that you tossed that drab old weekender and dropped by Jac. for one of our fabulatastic weekender bags by Dwell. If these don't inspire you to get out of Dodge, I don't know what will...

Weekender Bags by Dwell ($250 each)

Jeans: Not Just For Miners Anymore

Back in the day, a failed brewer/cigar store owner named Jacob Wolf decided to try his luck in the tailoring business. He wasn't the kind of tailor that was hemming pantsuits (shout out to Hillary Clinton's stylist on that one) or altering dresses, mind you. This was back in 1871 in the wild west, and our hero was doing his best to outfit mining folk in Reno, Nevada. Not exactly a career choice driven by a burning desire to make a difference in the fashion world.

Young Jacob Wolf had the idea to make trousers out of a material known as "white duck", strengthening them with some copper rivets that had were left over from some horse blankets he'd been making. The trousers were an overnight success, with miners from near and far flocking to his small shop to buy a pair of these new miracle pants - now known as jeans!

Thing is, Jacob had just enough money to keep his business going- he didn't exactly have money budgeted for patent protection. With nowhere else to turn, he asked his fabric supplier if he might help. That fabric supplier's name was Levi Strauss.

What began as one tailor's creative use of horse blanket rivets has spawned one of our national obsessions. Here are some of Jac's latest and greatest:

Kasil Taryn lightweight jeans ($178)

James Jeans Oliver Bermuda Shorts ($150)

Anlo Highwaisted Gena Skirt ($202) in an awesome, old school L'Eggs advertisement pose

Built By Wendy Straight Leg Jeans ($155)
